Project Description: During the winter 2012 semester, Dance Repertory and Dance Ensemble courses will be doing on site performances in Flint Elementary schools. Student research assistant will participate in the research, design, construction and maintenance of costumes for these performances. As this is a community outreach project, duties will include the transport of costumes between schools and the University costume shop. Prior to these visits, some of the dances will be performed in the department dance concert, including the ballet Sleeping Beauty. For this ballet, student research assistant will engage in historical research of costumes from the classical time period.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities: Student will assist faculty in historical costume research, design, construction and maintenance of costumes for Winter Dance Concert and performances at Flint elementary schools. Maintenance includes the transportation of costumes and props to and from the UM Flint costume shop.
Minimum Student Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include senior status, dance minor or major in theatre with a dance emphasis, experience working with theatrical dance costumes, sewing skills.
