Project Description: The communication program is studying how to do effective assessment of student learning at the university level. The project focuses on the communication program's experience with general education assessment at UM-Flint, but the intent is to think broadly about effective assessment process. In order to investigate this question, we set up an assessment seminar for communication faculty and recorded the seminar. We will have the student transcribe that conversation. Once that is complete, we will need to code the transcribed seminar. The coding looks at the conversation between faculty and the affect that faculty voiced verbally and nonverbally. Depending on the amount of time it takes to complete the project, we may need to extend it into the Winter 2012 semester. This is when we may need to finish up coding and then compare that coding to a set of surveys we gave faculty about general education assessment.

Student Tasks & Responsibilities:  The student with transcribe a 60 minute seminar for communication faculty. The student will code certain elements of verbal and nonverbal affect displayed during the seminar.

Minimum Student Qualifications: Experience coding. Detail oriented. An interest in research
