Project Number: UR148
Project Title: Vitamin D metabolizing enzymes in triple negative breast cancer
Faculty Sponsor: Jessica Kelts
Department: Chemistry and Biochemistry
Proposed Starting Date: 01/01/2013
Proposed Ending Date: 05/01/2012
Student in mind: Yes
Number of hours to work per week: 7-10 hours
Project Description: Examining the changes in vitmain D metabolizing enzyme mRNA by RT-PCR and protein by Western blot in various triple negative breast cancer cells.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities: Students will be responsible for running western blots and RT-PCR experiments. Some students may be responsible for maintaining mammalian cell lines. Students will have to submit progress reports every other week and will expected to complete a summary paper at the end of each semester.
Minimum Student Qualifications: Students must be biochemistry majors that have completed CHM 450 and CHM 451 to work on this project. They must also complete a CHM 299 paper on the background of this project and complete CHM 499 with me or another chemistry professor before doing research on this project through UROP.
