Project Title: Early Algebra Project, a.k.a. The Handshaking Project

Project Description: Does experience with early algebra activities in elementary school which lay the foundation for later advanced thinking actually improve performance in algebra in middle and high school? We will be researching these questions as part of research project with K-5 teachers in the Greater Flint area and seek students to assist us with our project.
Student Tasks & Responsibilities: We are seeking two UM-Flint education students (either elementary or secondary) to assist on aspects of this project. A wide variety of tasks will be involved including observations, researching, and attending meetings.
Minimum Qualifications: If approved for UROP support, we will seek two education students to assist us, hopefully one elementary and one secondary student.
