Sara Groat is the Assistant Director of Housing in the Office of Housing and Residential Life. She coordinates a number of projects including our Camps & Conference Housing and facilities management to ensure daily operations run efficiently.
Sara’s academic achievements include graduation from Saginaw Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and holding a master’s degree focusing on College Student Affairs Administration. Before coming to the University of Michigan – Flint she worked in private off-campus housing and student life.
Aside from work, Sara enjoys gardening, golfing, spending time with family/friends and anything outside.
Alex Straley is the Housing Coordinator in the Office of Housing and Residential Life. She handles all housing assignments for both Riverfront Residence Hall and First Street Residence Hall. She joined us at the university mid-2016 and brings a variety of experience with her. Her most recent position was in the private student housing industry managing all housing assignments of a 525 bed facilitiy. Prior to that she was a Resident Director at Saginaw Valley State University and Residence Coordinator at the University of British Columbia.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Arts Degree from Saginaw Valley State University.
In her spare time, Alex enjoys cheering on Tomas Tatar of the Detroit Red Wings and practicing yoga.
Henry Shin is the Hall Director for Riverfront and First Street Residence Halls. He has been at the University since 2015. He supervises the Assistant Hall Directors and the Resident Advisors in the buildings to develop a strong community among students living on campus.
Henry was born in South Korea and grew up in Los Angeles, California, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with minors in Psychology, Political Science, and Theatre, from the University of California, San Diego. He then attended Loyola University Chicago for his Master of Education in Higher Education degree, graduating as a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. While at Loyola, Henry worked for two years as an Assistant Resident Director, overseeing residential populations ranging from 180 to 400 freshmen, sophomores, international and transfer students. Henry moved to Michigan in 2013 to work as a Resident Director for Saginaw Valley State University. Henry was a Resident Director by day and graduate student by night, completing his Master of Business Administration degree and graduating as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Business Honor Society.
Throughout his time working in Residential Life, Henry has been certified in many different training programs to better assist students. Some of them include ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), I’m Here For You (Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking), Title IX, and Safe Space (LGBTQI).
In his free time, Henry has a lot of different interests; Henry has an article published in the textbook Comparative Case Studies on Entrepreneurship in Developed and Developing Countries (2015) and has competed with Saginaw Valley State University’s Formula SAE team in 2014 and 2015, earning 12th place of 107 international universities and 1st place of 13 Michigan universities in the 2015 business proposal portion of the competition.
Sharon "Shay" Hollamon serves as the Assistant Hall Director for First Street Residence Hall. Shay has a long history with Housing and Residential Life here at UM-Flint - she was one of the first residents to inhabit First Street Residence Hall when it opened in 2008 and her historical knowledge is a great asset to our team. This is her second year in the role of AHD.
Shay holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan-Flint and is currently pursuing her Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Health Care.
In her spare time she enjoys babysitting and hanging out with family.
Khalilah Rashada serves as our Assistant Hall Director for Riverfront Residence Hall. She brings experience from her days working as a Resident Assistant for a private student housing building as well as student organizational involvement with groups like Campus Activities Board, Poets and Writer's Society, African Student Association, and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. This is her first year in the role of AHD.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan-Flint and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree.
In her spare time Khalilah likes to sing, dance, and spend time with friends.
