Welcome to the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety (DPS) website. Our website contains information about security, personal safety, and support services available to you, as well as information about parking and transportation services.
DPS provides complete law enforcement services to the campus. Our police officers are licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and authorized to enforce all federal, state, and local laws, and rules of the University of Michigan. Our officers are also deputized by Genesee County. Our officers are well trained in services unique to an academic institution. We are dedicated to the community policing philosophy as a way of delivering police services to our campus community.
Emergency Alert System
Your safety is the top concern of UM-Flint. In the event of an emergency on campus, this website will contain detailed information for you. This information may include:
- Status of the university, including cancellation of classes
- Emergency contact information
- All press releases related to an emergency
Communication in the midst of a crisis is paramount to helping our campus community reduce risk. UM-Flint will provide students, faculty, and staff with alerts and informational updates as necessary.

* Please Note: +86 phone numbers will not be automatically enrolled in the UM Emergency Alert system. Due to regulations and restrictions put in place by the Chinese Government, +86 numbers cannot receive UM Emergency Alerts via SMS/Text. Please see About UM Alerts for more information.
Report a Crime or Concern
University community members, students, faculty, staff, and guests are encouraged to report all crimes and public safety-related incidents to the police in a timely manner. Bystanders or witnesses are encouraged to report when a victim is unable to report. Help keep our campus community safe – Call DPS as soon as you become aware of any crime, suspicious activity, or public safety concern.

Dial 911 for emergency and non-emergency incidents
*DPS has police jurisdiction on any UM-Flint property; if the incident occurred off-campus the report should go to the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction. DPS can help you determine the applicable law enforcement jurisdiction.
**You may also use the Emergency Blue Light Phones located throughout campus to report an emergency. Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) may report Clery Act Crimes here.
Note: U-M Standard Practice Guide 601.91 indicates that anyone who is not a CSA, including victims or witnesses, and who prefers to report crimes on a voluntary, confidential basis for inclusion in the Annual Security Report may do so 24/7 without disclosing their name by calling the Compliance Hotline at (866) 990-0111 or using the Compliance Hotline online reporting form.

Annual Security & Fire Safety Notice
The University of Michigan-Flint’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR-AFSR) is available online at go.umflint.edu/ASR-AFSR. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes Clery Act crime and fire statistics for the preceding three years for locations owned and or controlled by UM-Flint, the required policy disclosure statements and other important safety-related information. A paper copy of the ASR-AFSR is available on request made to Department of Public Safety by calling 810-762-3330, by email to [email protected] or in person at DPS at the Hubbard Building at 602 Mill Street; Flint, MI 48502.
