From the Director of Public Safety
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety (DPS) website for 2016. The women and men of the Department of Public Safety are committed to making our campus a safe place to live, learn, work, visit and play. We strongly believe in the principles of community policing, and work with our campus and community partners to enhance the safety and quality of life for the community we serve. Our efforts are focused on building a stronger, safer and healthier community for all. Just a couple of examples of those efforts include the DPS lead Urban Safety Corps. This spring, DPS in collaboration with our community partners will launch the Urban Safety Corps project in the University Avenue area. DPS offers Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training for our community members. The RAD training is at no cost and is offered several times during the year.
We enjoy positive relationships with the campus and great community because of our professional, caring, diverse and talented team. Learn more about the activities, events, and volunteer opportunities we sponsor by clicking on the “Connecting with U” link located on our main webpage. We recognize that all members of the campus community share in the responsibility of maintaining our safe environment. To that end, our website provides relevant and practical information to help you prevent and better respond in the event of a crime or a public safety emergency.
Please take a few minutes to browse through our website. You will find information about our department, our goals, campus crime, crime prevention, crime bulletins, community engagement activities and much more. For community members wanting to receive individual alerts and information, there are directions for signing up for the University of Michigan-Flint Campus Emergency Alert System. Our priority is your safety and providing you with the best customer service possible.
