August 21– August 27, 2004

08/23/04 & 08/24/04 On Monday 8/23 a laptop was stolen from an unattended UCEN office of a staff member. On Tuesday 8/24 a backpack containing credit cards, ID and a check book was stolen from an unattended reception area in a William S White Building office. Later this same day Tuesday 8/24, Grand Blanc PD arrested two subjects as they attempted to cash one of victim's stolen checks. Public Safety responded to Grand Blanc PD to interview suspects. One suspect confessed to the theft of the backpack. With this suspect's consent, Public Safety searched his motel room and recovered evidence linking this suspect to the theft of the laptop from Monday's incident.

08/23/04 Monday A subject previously trespassed from University property was arrested after he was found loitering in the North Bank building. The suspect had a criminal bench warrant for his arrest from Muskegon . Charges of trespass and failure to respond to a court ordered appearance will be sought.

08/23/04 Monday While investigating the above subject, a woman stole textbooks from the book store. A description was obtained and book store employees are on the look out for this suspect.

08/24/04 Tuesday A subject's welfare was checked after he was observed in a prone position and not moving near the dam. The suspect was questioned regarding suspicious property in his possession. The suspect had a criminal bench warrant for his arrest. A warrant will be sought for failure to respond to a court ordered appearance.

08/25/04 Wednesday A subject was arrested after he refused to leave the University Pavilion after having been asked by a uniformed Police officer. The subject had been loud and profane and was disturbing the peace. A trespass warrant will be sought for refusing to leave University property.

08/25/04 Wednesday A suspect previously handled by Public Safety for larceny was interrupted by a faculty member as he was “snooping” in an office. She questioned his motives. The suspect made a feeble excuse and left the office. The employee quickly locked the office door and called Safety. The suspect was arrested and charges will be sought.
