At the Department of Public Safety (DPS), we do more than just respond to crimes once they happen. Prevention and education are just as important when it comes to keeping our community safe. That’s why we provide a comprehensive online directory of safety tips, presentations and in-person training programs. These resources are designed to empower the UM-Flint community to take a proactive approach to their own safety.

Together we are building a culture of preparedness.

DPS Commitment to Excellence, Transparency and Positive Relationships

DPS Commitment to Excellence, Transparency and Positive Relationships

In 2018, the UM-Flint Department of Public Safety achieved accredition through the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. Accreditation is evidence of the highest professional standards in policing. This includes establishing sound operational procedures, policies and training while maintaining a committment to safety for the campus and neighboring community.

At the Thursday, October 18, 2018 University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting in Flint, DPS' pursuit was officially recognized by Michigan’s foremost authority on law enforcement, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP), who declared UM-Flint’s DPS as the first university public safety department to become state accredited by the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC). Read more about this achievement UM-Flint NOW - News & Happenings article HERE.

This achievement further solidifies the Department of Public Safety’s commitment to excellence, transparency, and building positive relationships with not just our campus, but all community members,” said UM-Flint Chancellor Susan E. Borrego.
