Student Association of Michigan
Each month, representatives of Michigan's 15 public universities meet together to provide a voice for their student bodies. The Student Association of
Michigan (SAM) is their means to advocate for students needs and to be a vehicle for change.
To advance higher education by empowering current and future students to advocate on their own behalf for the accessibility, affordability, and quality
of the public institutions of higher education in the state of Michigan.
The Student Association of Michigan (SAM) was founded in 2007 by representatives of student governments from across the state of Michigan who
desperately needed a forum for idea-sharing and collaboration. SAM connects Michigan's higher educational institutions and provides a platform for
common-ground advocacy. Ultimately, SAM exists to be the voice of Michigan students on issues affecting them.
As a bi-partison organization, SAM's goal is to serve the students of Michigan through responsible and cooperative action. It is determined to remain an
impartial institution striving for the betterment of Michigan's students. Keeping this in mind, its decisions and actions are determined by a vote of SAM's
members and are based on the most objective assessment of issues.
SAM also partners with various organizations, such as the United States Student Association (USSA), in order to combat crucial issues and to share
resources and knowledge needed to reach common goals.
