Health care is expanding at a rate never before seen. Driven by technological developments and an aging population, health care offers more career choices than any other industry. To best prepare you for a career in the multi-dimensional arena of health care, the degree programs of the School of Health Professions and Studies (SHPS) blend a liberal arts education with dynamic professional experiences. This gives you a balanced, contemporary perspective of the many issues in health care, health care delivery models, factors influencing health, and health care professional/client relationships.

NURSING
Nursing is one of the first professions people think of when they hear about careers in health care.  Probably because we communicate with nurses at our doctor's office and during visits to the hospital.
You may not know that nurses can also find careers in legislation and litigation, research, long-term care, administration, counseling, managed care orginizations, insurance companies, schools, and work place health. Nurses who are interested in teaching may enjoy roles in patient education, the training of other nurses, and instruction as faculty members at colleges and universities.  Opportunities for nurses will continue to evolve as health care settings expand and diversify.  We offer both undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees, including an online program.  If you are interested in pursuing a career in nursing, contact the Nursing Department today.

PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical Therapists work closely with people who suffer from physical pain and disabilities, perhaps as a result of an accident or debilitating condition.  Working hands-on with their patients, they aim to restore mobility by performing tests and providing treatments to help prevent or limit conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy.  Physical Therapists are strong advocates of healthy and active lifestyles.  They are also found in research, education and management roles.  We offer a Doctor in Physical Therapy degree, which will be necessary to practice physical therapy in the near future. To find out more, contact the Physical Therapy Department today.

HEALTH SCIENCES AND ADMINISTRATION
While the roles of physicans and nurses define health care as we know it, the bulk of health services are actually provided by other professional specialists, acting ineither administrative, educational, or direct care capacities.    We offer bachelor's degrees in Health Care Administration, Health Science, Health Education, Medical Technology, and Radiation Therapy.  We also offer graduate programs in Anesthesia and Health Education. As health care expands and grows, these specialists will be in high demand, and the School of Health Professions and Studies Health Sciences and Administration Department is well-positioned to give you the skills to take advantage of these career opportunities.
