Augustine O. Agho, Ph.D.

Biography

Dr. Augustine O. Agho joined the University of Michigan-Flint in July 2001 as Dean of the School of Health Professions and Studies. Dr. Agho obtained his doctoral degree Hospital and Health Administration from the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, master of health administration degree from Governors State University, and Bachelor of Arts in Management Science from Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska.

Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. Agho served as Professor and Director of the Division of Health Care Management, School of Allied Health Sciences at Florida A&M University (FAMU). During his tenure at FAMU he created a minor in Rehabilitation Services Administration; obtained approval from the State Board of Nursing Home Administrators for the long-term care administration track; secured scholarship funds for disadvantaged students; increased student enrollment and graduation rates; increased diversity of faculty; secured and maintained the program's full membership in the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA); and established the master of science in health care administration program.

Dr. Agho has published many papers in refereed journals and has presented at numerous regional and national conferences. His research interests are in the areas of minority health, cultural diversity, and health literacy. He has received research grants from several government agencies and foundations, including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Life Care Foundations of America, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation and the Ruth Mott Foundation. Recently, Dr. Agho was selected to serve as a Commissioner by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.   He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Health Administration Education and on the board of the Greater Flint Health Coalition, and the Arthur L. Tuuri Health Advisory Committee. Some of his notable awards include: Teacher of the Year Award, Advanced Teacher of the Year Award, and the Distinguished Researcher Award.
