The Academic Enrichment Center of the University of Michigan-Flint provides free tutorial services and other academic support services to the diverse UM-Flint student population. The Center offers five basic services:
Walk-in tutoring
A limited number of tutors are available each semester on demand at scheduled times in our main location at 264 UCEN, in our satellite location in 364 UCEN, and in various on-campus labs. View the current schedule of walk-in tutoring times at our 264 UCEN location.
Individual tutoring
Students needing help in courses not offered on our walk-in schedule, or students who are unable to attend tutorial during walk-in hours, are invited to complete an online individual tutor request form. While we try our best to accommodate student needs, individual tutoring is dependent upon tutor availability.
Individual Study Skills sessionsIf you are having trouble with study skills or want to improve your test-taking preparation, you can make an appointment with the AEC Coordinator, who will work with you on an individual basis.
Study Skills WorkshopsEach Fall and Winter semester, the AEC provides a number of helpful workshops on various topics, including note-taking, text-reading skills, and test-taking skills. View current semester schedule of workshops.
Supplemental InstructionSupplemental Instruction (SI) developed at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the 1970s, is a support program which provides students with targeted group study sessions tailored to the specific needs of the class. The heart of the SI program involves the SI leader, a trained UM-Flint student who has been chosen by the faculty. View SI schedule. SI leaders attend all class sessions, complete all assigned readings, and facilitate weekly 50-minute sessions that provide students with a greater insight into the material presented in class. SI Leaders also help students master content-oriented material while improving study skills and test-taking strategies. Ultimately, SI Leaders strive to empower students to explore concepts and work problems on their own. While SI session attendance is voluntary, students should seriously consider attending one SI session per week.
