Message from the Dean
Welcome to the University of Michigan-Flint School of Management website. The School of Management (SOM) is one of four main academic units at the University of Michigan-Flint. We work collaboratively to fulfill the mission and strategic plan of the University.
It is the mission of SOM to provide students with an exceptional education and to give them the tools needed to succeed in business. We strive to offer diverse business programs that prepare our students for many different career paths in today's business world. The quality of our programs is demonstrated in our accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) International, the hallmark of excellence in management education.
SOM’s faculty members exude a high standard of excellence in teaching, research and civic engagement They are committed to bettering the lives of our students. SOM’s outstanding staff is committed to being supportive and helpful in serving the students and the University.
SOM strives to make a positive impact on the communities we serve. We work to form relationships with community groups, businesses and community members to come together collaboratively for the betterment of all involved. Through our partnerships we are able to offer internship opportunities for students and quality interns for businesses. Through the Michigan Family Business Center we deliver business support to small businesses to help them prosper. The Michigan Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership provides experiential learning opportunities for our students while promoting growth of businesses and non-profit organizations.
In January 2012, SOM relocated to the beautiful Riverfront Center on Saginaw Street across from the University Pavilion. SOM now occupies the entire second floor of the Riverfront Center with more than 27,000 square feet of space. The new location is equipped with a finance lab, interactive market wall, video classroom, student study rooms and a 24/7 computer lab. The addition of new technology paves the way for more innovative practices providing students with an exceptional business education.
