When searching for internships and jobs, it is important not to limit yourself to a single search. Please visit these additional places to search for internships online.

www.volunteerinternational.org lists volunteer opportunities abroad.

Don’t forget that many internships and jobs are made through personal connections rather than online searches. Make use of your personal contacts to identify potential opportunities.

Ask friends and family if their workplace has an internship program.
Talk to students who are currently interning or who have interned in the past.
Find someone in your ideal career to shadow and learn from.

After you have found and applied for your internship(s):

If called for an interview, PREPARE as if for your dream job.
Inform the Student Services Coordinator of your interview.
Send a “thank you” letter to all persons/companies that interview you.
After accepting an offer, do not continue to interview for other positions. (Sample “decline” letter)
Complete and return the Internship Information form to the Student Services Coordinator.
To get course credit for your internship, you must:

Be in good academic standing (GPA > 2.49).
Have at least junior standing.

On the job:

Interns must work a minimum of 150 hours to earn 3 credits.
Use the Internship Log to record all hours worked; have it signed by your supervisor and emailed to the Student Services Coordinator on or before the last day of the semester.
Behave in the internship as if it were a permanent job, because it very well could turn into one!
Dress professionally, show up according to schedule, be productive, ask questions, job shadow, learn as much as you can, and network with everyone you meet.

At the end of the internship:

Schedule a final meeting with your supervisor to discuss your experience and your performance.
Ask your supervisor to email or fax the performance evaluation to the Student Services Coordinator.
Express thanks for the opportunity to intern with him/her.
Write a 10-15 page report about your learning experience and submit it to your internship advisor. (Report Guidelines)
Send a thank you letter to your supervisor and include a copy of your final report. (Sample Thank You Letter)
Keep in touch with your supervisor and colleagues, they may be important in your job search following graduation. You may contact them to provide references and to inquire about job openings.
