M. Lynn Barbee, International Student Advisor, International Center
Although I am new to UM-Flint, I would bring a wealth of experience to the staff council. I have years of experience in event planning, organizing and problem solving. Whenever possible, I have served on committees and in groups designed to improve workplace standards and employee morale at previous employers. Giving back to the community is something I try to do on a regular basis by donating my time or my resources. We are a community here at U of M-Flint and I want to do all I can to keep our community one where we can grow individually and collectively.
I ask that you give me the opportunity to put my skills and experience to work for you as a member of the staff council.
Barbara Bassett, Administrative Assistant Intermediate, Educational Opportunity Initiatives
I would like to express my desire to run for representative of staff council in the 2009-10 election. I have been on this campus for 10 ½ years and have served previously as a representative in the Vice Chair and Chair positions. I admire and appreciate the efforts of Staff Council to facilitate open communication between students, staff, faculty and administration. It is through this open communication process that we become better campus "citizens" providing an academic environment where we are truly "Engaging Minds, Preparing Leaders."
I am also interested in serving on Staff Council because I believe the Council is (and should be) the voice of campus staff. I currently serve as a core team member of the VOICES of the Staff on the Ann Arbor campus which is an initiative that President Coleman started. I have been honored to serve on the Chancellor's Council and the Budget Priorities Advisory Council in my capacity as Chair of Staff Council in the past.
Some of the other committees that I have served on are: Environment Stewardship Committee, United Way, Faculty and Staff Annual Giving Committee, Welcome Back Picnic, and Recreation and Auxiliary Services Board.
I believe that in being elected to Staff Council I will have an opportunity to protect what I value most: my status as an employee of The University of Michigan-Flint and the relationships established with other staff, faculty and members of administration.
Thanking you in advance for your consideration, Barbara Bassett
Nicole Borcherding, Major Gifts Officer, School of Education and Human Services
For 3 ½ years, I have had the privilege of working as a UM-Flint major gifts officer, a role that allows me to assist in advancing the University's priorities. In doing so, I have had the pleasure of working alongside many fellow staff members across campus. This experience has made one thing clear: We, as a staff, are proud to be part of the University of Michigan. With that said, my love for our campus and colleagues inspires me to seek a role on Staff Council. I am excited at the opportunity to better serve our University by advocating for our staff's best interests, ultimately making the University an even better place to learn and work.Garry Cardillo, Office Assistant, Academic Advising and Career Center
I have worked in this department and at the University for three years. In my time here, not only have I learned a great deal, but have gotten to know a diverse group of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members. If elected, my goals are to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to Staff Council, get to know more of the dedicated, hard working staff here at the University of Michigan-Flint, and help change our campus for the better.
Byron L. DeShano, Accountant Intermediate, Cashiers / Student Accounts
As a student here at the University of Michigan-Flint, I was involved greatly as a member and then officer of both Business Club and Beta Alpha Psi. As an officer of both student organizations I spent much time planning and participating in various professional speaking events and community service activities.
Now, as a staff member here at the University of Michigan-Flint, I would like to get just as involved as I was as a student. I feel that Staff Council is an essential and an effective form of communication between the staff and administration and I would like to be a part of keeping that open communication effective. If I am given the wonderful opportunity to serve on Staff Council, I would be an open ear to all staff concerns and be sure that they are brought forth to the council and assist in making any necessary changes to accommodate those concerns. I would also be actively looking and pursuing any possible opportunities that may benefit our staff.
I greatly appreciate your time and consideration and hope to be serving the staff as a Staff Council Member soon.
Stacey Doyle, Major Gift Officer for the School of Health Professions and Studies
As a staff member at UM-Flint for two plus years I have witnessed Staff Council's positive works from the side-line. The University has become a second family to me and I feel there is an opportunity to give back by joining staff council and assisting it's efforts in moving our campus forward.James Vogt, Guard, Department of Public Safety
I would like to announce my interest in running for a position on Staff Council at the University of Michigan - Flint.
I have been working for the Department of Public Safety for over 6 years. I would like to get involved to move our campus forward into the future. I feel I can bring to Staff Council a different perspective and ideas to help Staff Council grow to continue to serve the campus community.
Thank you for your consideration.
