Message from the Steering Committee Chairs
Dear Colleagues:
Nearly fifteen weeks of Strategic Planning effort has taught us that a detailed timeline and diverse perspectives are essential to facilitating effective strategic thinking. We’re working diligently to accomplish both. We’ve developed a comprehensive timeline and a communication model that outline a series of town hall campus meetings, committee assignments, and systematic progress reports to constituent groups and communities. Eighty staff, students, faculty, administrators and alumni are serving on committees whose work focuses on the core themes of our planning: Learning, Scholarship and Professional Development; Student Life and Services; Academic Programs; Outreach and Engagement; Physical Space; Diversity; Enrollment; and Revenue Enhancement. And as the planning process builds, so will many additional opportunities for collaboration and campus conversation. Our goal is a strategic planning exercise that is organized, cohesive, and participatory, but one that does not sacrifice innovation and creativity.
We are looking forward to facilitating the discussion, analysis, and review of where we are as an institution, where we want to be, how we get there, and how we measure our progress along the way. By Spring 2011, the campus and community will have created a thoughtful, practical, and courageous set of goals that point the way toward UM-Flint’s continuing pursuit of excellence in higher education. The work is important, and we encourage, expect, and appreciate everyone’s involvement.
