Dr. Young has been employed at the University of Michigan-Flint since 1987. In addition to the Student Development Center, Dr. Young’s responsibilities include oversight of Student Life, the Academic Advising and Career Center, and the Ellen Bommarito Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Center. Dr. Young is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Masters of Public Administration Program.

Dr. Kassel has been a part of the SDC staff since September 1990. In addition to supervising the work of tutors and Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders, he also leads study skills workshops and works individually with students in the areas of test anxiety and study skills. Dr. Kassel, whose Ph. D. is in history, also teaches in the History Department and in the Masters of Liberal Studies in American Culture Program here at UM-Flint.
Tamara McKay, MA, LLP

Ms. McKay joined the staff of SDC in August 2007. As the Lead Campus Counselor in Counseling Services, Tamara provides individual, couples, and group psychotherapy for currently enrolled students. She supervises the Internship Programs for the agency as well as conducts Outreach Activities for the campus community. The Counseling Center also provides psychological testing for students which includes the assessment of learning disabilities, substance use/abuse, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, test anxiety, and personality functioning. Crisis intervention services are also available to students.

Ms. Smith joined the SDC staff in September 2008. As a Campus Counselor, Amanda provides individual, couples, and group psychotherapy for currently enrolled students. She, along with Lead Counselor Tamara McKay, conducts outreach activities for the campus community, provides consultation services for faculty and staff, and provides students with psychological testing services. In addition to her service in the Student Development Center, she is also Adjunct Lecturer in the Psychology Department here at UM-Flint.
Zachary Tomlinson

Zachary graduated in 2003 from the University of Michigan Flint Graduate with a B. A. in Psychology. He has been working with and advocating for the disabled community for nearly 10 years. Zachary serves on the Board of Directors for The Disability Network/Genesee County Center for Independent Living as well as the Governors Commission on Disability Concerns.
