Student Awards

 

Dr. Virginia R. Allen Serving Students Engaging Minds Award

This award is presented to one University of Michigan-Flint student who is employed on campus (temporary or work study).  Recipients of this award reflect the Student Services and Enrollment Management mission by supporting the work of students, staff, and members of the community; providing exceptional service, and exhibiting accuracy, efficiency, creativity, and integrity.

 

Joanne Sullenger Emerging Leader Award

This award is presented to one UM-Flint first-year student, enrolled during the 2012-2013 academic year, who has made significant contributions to the University of Michigan-Flint or community.

 

Virginia M. July University Contribution Award for a Student

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student for contributions made to the University of Michigan-Flint.

 

Dr. Renate McLaughlin Academic Achievement Award

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student, enrolled during the 2012-2013 academic year, who has excelled academically and has served as a role model for others.

 

Dr. Charlie Nelms Community Contribution Award for a Student

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student for significant contributions made to the greater Flint community through service projects and civic engagement.

 

Brian D. Proffer Student Excellence Award

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student who posses attributes of school spirit, academic excellence (3.0 GPA or above), involvement in extra curricular activities, and promotes a sense of pride for attending the University of Michigan-Flint.

 

Lillian B. Wright Citizenship Award

This award is presented to one UM-Flint graduating senior during the 2012-2013 academic year that has had involvement in clubs and organizations; campus and community organizations; helpful to all faculty, staff, and fellow students; and contributed to his or her department.   

 

Student Organization Awards

 

Virginia M. July University Contribution Award for an Organization

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student organization for contributions made to the University of Michigan-Flint.

 

Dr. Juan E. Mestas Award of Excellence

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student organization who has encompassed the three pillars of the university: excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarship; student centeredness; and engaged citizenship, in their events and organizational membership.

 

Dr. Charlie Nelms Community Contribution Award for an Organization

This award is presented to one UM-Flint student organization for significant contributions made to the greater Flint community through service projects and civic engagement.

 

Staff Awards

 

Dr. Mary Jo Sekelsky Staff Appreciation Award

This award is presented to one outstanding nonstudent staff member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to UM-Flint students. The criteria for this award are as follows: responsiveness to student needs, positive attitude towards students, and dedication to the mission statement of the University and their division.

 

Dr. Charles W. Bailey Advisor Award

The Advisor Award is awarded to one outstanding faculty or staff member who has shown great leadership in helping advise a student or student organization in academics and/or extra-curricular activities to ensure their success at the University of Michigan-Flint.

 

Faculty Awards

 

Dr. Matthew Hilton-Watson Distinguished Professor Award

This award is presented to one outstanding faculty member who has contributed significantly to his/her students through individual teaching style and attitude towards teaching. The criteria for this award is as follows: good lecturer, must keep the individuals in his/her class interested, academically active, and student friendly, encouraging them to learn, ask questions, discuss, and is willing and available to help.

 

Dr. Charles W. Bailey Advisor Award

The Advisor Award is awarded to one outstanding faculty or staff member who has shown great leadership in helping to advise a student or student organization in academics and/or extra-curricular activities to ensure their success at the University of Michigan-Flint.
