"Our country as it was is passed, but in the agony of her travail she will give us a more perfect heritage of Liberty and Security." Those timeless words, written by Major Lyman G. Willcox during the midst of the Civil War, became an important thread in my master's thesis and 400 page biography entitled: Across the Bloody Chasm.

Dr. Rubenstein not only wrote the Foreword to my book but he, along with other prominent U of M-Flint professors, equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to research, write, speak, sing, act, and teach. As a teacher at Peck Schools, I developed a writing program on Voice, which I share with school districts across the state. I recently played the historical role of a "thieving woman" in the movie No Retreat from Destiny. The fabric of my life is stitched to the University at every seam; I am thankful for the strands of wisdom I have secured, and the threads of knowledge I impart.

Thanks to the University of Michigan-Flint-an institution recognized world-wide for its excellence-Confidence has become my Confidant and Opportunity an Academic Reward.
