ABBREVIATION

The following are acceptable abbreviations for the University of Michigan-Flint name. Whenever possible, spelling out the complete name "University of Michigan-Flint" is strongly encouraged.

FONTS

In order to keep a consistent look and feel throughout all materials and for legibility reasons, below are the approved fonts for the University of Michigan-Flint materials. Only these fonts may be used in university publications.



STATIONERY
UM-Flint letterhead includes the college/school and department/office information and the address block. Include an appropriate web site at the bottom of the address block. The university business system does not allow for personalized stationery. For second and subsequent pages, use blank white paper stock.

 

#10 ENVELOPE
College/school and department/office information, as well as the address block, appear on the front of the envelope. This envelope configuration conforms to U.S. Postal Services bulk mail regulations and includes the Mail Services bar code.


BUSINESS CARD
Name, title, college/school and department/office appear in that order centered under the signature on the face of the business card. The address block, complete with phone, fax, personal e-mail address, and web URL address is also centered at the bottom of the card.


Additional information (e.g., building location, home phone number, and professional associations) is not allowed on business cards.

 

 



PHOTOGRAPHY AND DEPARTMENT LOGOS
The University of Michigan-Flint has a library of approved photos and department logos for your use. You can visit the online Mediabin. Please note: you will need a uniqname and  LAN password to access this area of the site.
For consistency, university departments are not allowed to create their department logo. Department logos for print and headers for the web can be found in the online photo library, MediaBin.

REQUIRED TEXT
Senior Officers, Deans, Regents, and Citizens Advisory Committee

The current list of the Regents of the University of Michigan is required in “all University of Michigan publications designed primarily for external constituencies.” This includes but is not limited to:

  • newspapers, magazines, and brochures used for the cultivation or solicitation of private donors
  • publications produced to build or reinforce positive attitudes among alumni, parents, and government officials and to support the overall public relations goals of the institution


This policy applies to all published materials that represent the mission, organization, or historical accomplishments of the University and any of its major academic or operating units.

This list changes at least every two years and is also available from the Office of the Secretary of the University (734-763-5553) and from the Regents Web site. Publishers are strongly encouraged to verify the accuracy of this list each time it is to be reproduced.

“Regents” is capitalized in University usage when it refers to the Regents of the University, but not “regental.

University Guidelines regarding use of the non-discrimination policy statement:
The Nondiscrimination Policy Statement is provided in response to guidelines regulated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Office of the General Counsel says that the statement should be included in any materials or publications that contain general information and are used to “recruit applicants, participants, beneficiaries, or employees.” Posters could be exempt if they include no “general information” beyond the announcement of an event.

In instances where space is at a premium, specifically ads and posters, please add a line as follows:
“A Non-discriminatory, Affirmative Action Educator and Employer”.



Accessibility Statement Guidelines
Materials inviting attendance at events on campus or at campus-sponsored events off-campus should identify the office to be contacted to request accommodations for the disabled and specify a deadline by which the contact should occur so arrangements can be made.
