Use of University Logo and Seal

THE UM-FLINT LOGOS

The block M-Flint logo is the official logo of UM-Flint. It should appear on all materials distributed outside of the university, unless an exception is approved by the Office of University Relations.

STANDARDIZATION AND COLORS

To be an effective logo, it must be standardized to make it easy to recognize. Adaptations of the logo must be approved by the Office of University Relations before use. The logos are designed for flexible use by varying colors (maize, blue, black, white, or gold), by printing them in outline or solid form. The block UM-Flint logo must be printed in one color.

Maize and azure blue were first accepted as the University of Michigan colors in 1867, and various shades were used before the Regents defined the precise shades in 1912. The maize and blue combination instantly identified any material as being from the University of Michigan. Naturally, the two colors can be used with the logo and seal, but the colors are not required on any University of Michigan materials. In specifying the official colors for printing purposes, ask for PMS 109 (maize) and PMS 541 (blue). For additional assistance with color selection, contact the Office of University Relations.

Guidelines for the UM-Flint Logos:

  • Do not add any words or other images to a logo.
  • Do not modify a logo with an unauthorized typeface.
  • Do not modify, distort, obscure, and computer or camera enhance a logo in any way. (i.e.: do no place image or type over the logo)
  • Do not modify the size or position relationships for any element within a logo.
  • Do not use the Block M in the middle of a word or sentence.
  • Do not turn a logo on its side or upside down.
  • Do not put any logo over images.
  • Do not transect or divide the Block M.
  • Do not rotate logos or place on an angle.
  • Do not use existing logos to create new marks without approval from the Marketing department.
  • Do not use the Flint Block M in combination with any other logos without prior written approval from University Relations.

NO LONGER A DIFFERENCE IN M’S

Until recently, the University of Michigan-Flint maintained a separate logo from the other two campuses. We now share the same M with Flint written underneath. The word “Flint” is not a specific font so the logo should not be attempted to be recreated. Approved UM-Flint logos can be found in MediaBin within the Content Management System.
