Research spending in FY 2014 exceeded $730,000, an increase of over 15% from the prior year.  The University’s General Funds supports 56% of this spending.   Although the federal investment in University Research has eased off, UM Flint will continue to pursue sponsorship and partnership opportunities as the present themselves.  The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for supporting this effort.

The current Facilities and Administrative Cost rates (Indirect cost) negotiated with the Department of Health and Human Services are summarized in the table below from the recent contract:

The distribution of Indirect Cost is initiated by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.   The UM Flint policy for the distribution of the Indirect Cost recovery that it receives is as follows:

  • 50% to support the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
  • 25% for use of the Primary Investigator
  • 15% for use by the Dean
  • 10% for use by the Department of the Primary Investigator
