Frequently Asked Questions

What is the deadline to register to vote?
The deadline for voter registration in Michigan is 30 days before the election. For the 2019 general election, the registration deadline is October 7, 2019.

I live on campus, should I register using my home address or campus address?
You can choose which address you want to use to register to vote. Your address on your driver’s license must match the one on your voter registration card. Using a new address to register to vote will automatically change the address on your Michigan driver’s license.

Where do I vote on election day?
Your polling location is listed on your voter ID card. You can also verify your polling location at www.michigan.gov/vote.

Do I have to have photo ID in order to vote?
Michigan state law mandates that voters either show an acceptable form of identification or sign an affidavit that they are not in possession of identification before voting. Acceptable forms of ID are: a driver’s license, federal or state-issued photo ID, U.S. passport, military ID card with photo, student ID card with photo, or a tribal ID card with photo.

I’m going to be out of town on election day. Is there any way I can still vote?
