Who is the Writing Center for?
The WC is open to any student who writes a paper for any class on campus. Good writers, by the way, use the Writing Center as frequently as beginning writers do.
What services does the Writing Center provide?
Assistance is offered for any stage of writing: getting started, fine tuning topics, suggestions for developing or revising, final tutoring of finished papers, and help with MLA & APA formats to name a few.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, all tutoring is by appointment only. Please call or stop by to set one up. It is also recomeneded that you set up an appointment well in advance of its final due date-this will give you enough time to consider any suggestions your tutor has made.
Who can use the Writing Center computers?
English 109 students first. Then, anyone who uses the Writing Center services can revise and make changes to his/her paper. The Writing Center is not a computer lab.
What should I bring to a session?
Bring the assignment sheet for your paper, a copy of what you have (typed papers are preferable, but not necessary), and something to write with. Also, it can be helpful to bring previous drafts or notes and mention any particular questions or concerns you may have.
What won't happen in a tutoring session?
We won't write a paper for you, evaluate your writing, or give you a grade.
Do you work with grammar?
Yes, but we do not "fix" or correct your papers. If necessary, we will help you identify the mistakes and avoid them in the future.
What subjects do you work with?
Any subject. We can't help you learn course content, but we can help you communicate and write about those concepts.
How often can I visit the Writing Center?
The Writing Center is free and we encourage students to come back.
