Education Work Experience Teaching Research

1. Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is one of those highly complex and subtle activities that usually remain quite unformulated in the minds of those who practice them. This is probably why most instructors think that it is not possible to give any formal instruction in how to teach.

The university can be viewed as a prime location for learning. Learning can occur in the very work that we do in our classroom. The most important task for our instructors is to make students distinguish learning from knowing. Learning has to become a way of life. Only learning can keep up with change. In fact, the rate of learning must equal or exceed the rate of change. Learning is what creates, but also adapts, enlarges, and deepens knowledge.

To me, there is no preset goal, nor are there preset methods in teaching. I ask myself to be creative in teaching and ask my students to be creative learners. I deeply understand that teaching is not an assignment I can take lightly. My students have already paid substantial fees to attend the university for pursuing personal and professional development. If they don't like me, they will chew me up and spit me out.

2. Teaching Activities

  • Developed a new MIS course BUS181 (Fundamentals of Information Systems) and offered it from Winter 2003 semester.
  • Developed an online textbook for the new course BUS181.
  • Developed and offered China-Study course for Spring 2003, 2004, 2005.
