The University of Michigan-Flint is nationally recognized for its exemplary service to student veterans. In 2011, UM-Flint placed in the top 15% of all schools nationwide for being a Military Friendly School for 2011 by G.I. Jobs, and was also named a “Best for Vets” College by EDGE Magazine.

UM-Flint student veterans attend the university after their tours of duty, or online while they serve thousands of miles away. As a higher education leader for responding to the unique needs of our military men and women, UM-Flint strives to provide our veteran students with the support and guidance needed to obtain their degrees.

In 2009, UM-Flint opened the Student Veterans Resource Center. This office is dedicated to assisting student veterans with paperwork matters to help them enroll and pay for their college education, as well as offering an atmosphere for relaxation and meeting with other student veterans.

UM-Flint and the Pat Tillman Foundation's Military Scholars Program

UM-Flint is proud to be one of 12 university partners nationwide of the Pat Tillman Foundation’s Military Scholars program which provides educational scholarships for veteran and active service members and their dependents. University partners are selected based on their innovative program support services and proven culture of community for military families. As a University Partner, each institution conducts outreach to its veteran student population and actively participates in the selection process. Upon selection of Tillman Military Scholars on campus, each then supports the building of community among these students, strengthening their academic and personal experience.
