David Sheff is an influential journalist and the author of Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction. Published in 2008, Beautiful Boy was based on Sheff’s article, “My Addicted Son,” which appeared in the New York Times Magazine three years earlier. The book is a compassionate investigation of the disease of addiction inspired by his son’s battle with substance abuse. In 2018, Beautiful Boy was made into a film directed by Felix Van Groeningen, starring Steve Carell as David Sheff and Timothee Chalamet as Sheff’s son, Nic.
