RESEARCH IN ART & ART HISTORY

The Department of Art & Art History prides itself on providing opportunities for students to collaborate with faculty on creative projects and research. This activity is supported by several University of Michigan-Flint programs. 

Undergraduate Research opportunity program (UROP)

UROP allows undergraduate students to earn stipends of up to $500 per funding cycle while completing research with their faculty.

SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (SURE)

Similar to UROP, SURE provides an outlet for undergraduate students to take part in hands-on research with their professors while earning a stipend over the spring & summer semesters.

COMMUNITY DESIGN STUDIO

Students in Art 379: Design Studio for the Community work on real-world projects in collaboration with community partners. This course provides an experience that mirrors professional work in an agency setting. 

Recent Art & Art History Creative Activity

STUDENTS PROMOTE ACTION AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE WITH “DOLLARS AND SENSE” MARKETING CAMPAIGN

The “Dollars and Sense Climate Action Initiative” was developed during the Fall 2019 semester as part of ART 406: Branding Design. Led by Assistant Professor Andy Deck, students were tasked with the creation of a public service announcement campaign. The class chose climate change as their issue, approaching the topic in a unique way.

Students create t-shirt shop in Flint

As part of ART 379: Community Design Studio, students created "The Change Machine," a pop-up t-shirt shop on Flint's MLK Avenue. Read more about their real-world-experience. 

Award winner Jennifer Hess
