students as a University of Michigan-Flint faculty or staff member. Students look to you for advice on their academic plans and future careers. These conversations provide many opportunities to move students forward in their career development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When students come to you, here are some key messages to share with them:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-cc59f6fdce1340c4ae40062b15bc477b\"><strong>Connect Early and Connect Often<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students should <span style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">utilize&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/career-services\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Office of Student Career Advancement &amp; Success&nbsp;<\/a>resources&nbsp;<\/span>as early as their first year. Career managers and internship coordinators are here to assist students according to their major.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We encourage students to touch base with their respective career professionals at least once a semester in addition to attending events and workshops. Career professionals are ready to meet with students to explore careers, apply for internship\/job opportunities, practice interviewing, and support students in building their professional networks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading mb-2 has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-2469560a6efc50433598654997fee0d6\"><strong>Networking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-2\">Students need to know that submitting a resume online and then waiting for a reply is a job search method. Before submitting an application online or in person, career professionals encourage students to set up an appointment for a resume critique with an OSCAS or Writing Center staff member. Also, students must connect with our employer partners to establish a relationship.
