major field of study, through our Legal Studies Certificate, Law and Society Minor, Moot Court program and individualized pre-law advising and professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4b8cba160280e40e9bc31fa383bd6c3e\">Legal Studies Certificate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed to provide students of any major with the opportunity to develop the skills needed to do well on the LSAT and in law school, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.umflint.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=36&amp;poid=15344&amp;hl=legal&amp;returnto=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Legal Studies Certificate<\/a>&nbsp;focuses on critical thinking, logical reasoning, argumentative writing, listening and speaking skills. Because it is primarily skills-based, the certificate can accommodate a wide range of majors\/minors and includes courses from a range of disciplines\/departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students interested in exploring a legal career and those preparing for law school will benefit from the certificate. It will develop core skills in reading, writing, and speaking while exposing them to various programming, including mentorship, legal exploration and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4d616f62c8f3354e10257d9045904017\">Law and Society Minor&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.umflint.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=36&amp;poid=15100&amp;returnto=4572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Law and Society minor<\/a>\u00a0provides an interdisciplinary way to study the law in a societal context through the social sciences and humanities. It is a solid foundation for students seeking to attend law school who want to understand the law\u2019s applications in a broader context.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are challenged to think about the law from historical, theoretical, political, and social perspectives while learning about the institutions that seek to regulate behavior and deliver justice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minor is an especially beneficial tool for those students in majors who do not have an emphasis on the law but wish to be prepared for law school. This competition focuses on appellate advocacy, where students argue hypothetical U.S. Supreme Court cases in competition as well as write briefs in the brief writing competition. Our team participates in competitions through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/amcamootcourt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Moot Court Association<\/a>&nbsp;each Fall semester.
