As a critical communication pedagogue, I believe teaching is research. As such, I’m interested in the ways power dynamics (racism, heterosexism, etc.) shape classroom environments and what teacher-scholars can do to find spaces of connection in a world where separations are so readily drawn. I want my students to think critically about how their own identities have been shaped through communication, understand the social responsibility they have to communicate in ethical ways, and ultimately, feel empowered to engage in socially just public advocacy work.
