Dear Students:

We recognize what you as students (and we, as a university) are experiencing is unprecedented in higher education, and certainly in our collective lifetime. We acknowledge that COVID-19 conditions remain fluid and continue to change, which is requiring you to adapt to these changes and make many adjustments in real time – all while managing other demands in your lives. We know that this can feel overwhelming at times. But please know that you are not alone - we are in this together!  And that we will get through this together, as part of the UM-Flint community. We remain steadfast in support of each of you and will continuously work to support your health, well-being, and academic success through this crisis.    

Yesterday, Governor Whitmer issued a “Stay at Home” executive order for the State of Michigan which further limits the number of university employees and students on campus. As we continue to comply with state and federal mandates and recommended health practices, our community is mobilizing to ensure continuity of support and services to our students. As such, please be aware of the following resources as many have adapted to remote operations.  

Effective Tuesday, March 24 through Monday, April 13

Academic Support. Supplemental Instruction (SI), group tutoring, individual tutoring, and math lab are now online. For individual tutoring, students can make an appointment at umflint.go-redrock.com. For on-demand math questions, use our online math lab through Blackboard Collaborate. For other questions, contact the Student Success Center at (810) 762-3085.  

Advising. Academic advisors are working remotely, and are available to assist you during normal business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). Important decisions related to grading options continue to unfold.  Your advisor is working to obtain information that will help you make informed choices. Please contact your advisor to discuss further.  

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services). CAPS counselors will be available remotely during normal business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). To reach CAPS, call (810) 762-3456 during normal business hours to schedule a time to speak with a counselor. To reach CAPS after hours, please contact the UM-Flint Department of Public Safety at (810) 762-3333 to reach the crisis counselor on duty or dial 911. In the event of an emergency, please dial 911.  

Computer Labs. Due to the Governor’s executive order, computer labs will now be located exclusively in Riverfront at the following 2nd floor locations: Room 2341 (Finance Lab) and Room 2401. Both labs are accessible 24/7 via MCard for Riverfront residents.  

Disability and Accessibility Support Services. DASS will be available remotely during normal business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) by calling the temporary number (810) 275-0423 or by emailing dassflint@umich.edu.

Grocery Store (Walmart) Transport. The Department of Public Safety – through Safe Rides – will provide daily transportation to the grocery store for students residing on or near campus. The shuttle will be available from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. daily, and the pick-up and drop-off location will be at the entrance to Riverfront. Due to the expected volume, the trips will be to Walmart only during this time. 

Office of the Ombuds. The Office of the Ombuds is a safe environment where students and members of the University of Michigan-Flint community may go for assistance in resolving conflicts, disputes, or complaints on an informal basis. For an appointment, call (810) 762-0002.

Picasso Food Service. Picasso will continue food service operations for students residing in Riverfront. Resident Students - Please see your email for an online meal order form, an online grocery order form, and additional details about delivery days, times and location, and same-day ordering. There is no additional charge for the delivery service. Picasso will accept Maize Money or credit card for payment.

Student Health Insurance. The University of Michigan Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan will be scheduling a special open enrollment period for students needing immediate health insurance coverage due to the current health crisis. Details are being finalized and will be communicated to students in a separate message.  

Wolverine Food Den (food pantry). The Wolverine Food Den will be open Monday-Friday from 1-3 p.m. Please access UCEN through the main entrance near the Recreation Center using your MCard.  All interactions will adhere to recommended social distancing practices. 
  
Lastly, in support of the Governor’s directive, the University of Michigan-Flint is forced to cancel all student organization in-person events, meetings, and programs for the remainder of the semester. All event spaces that are currently reserved will be canceled. If you have made requests for catering through Picasso please reach out to their staff directly to cancel your orders. Please refer to Engage for additional information and ideas for staying connected and engaging through a variety of online and remote resources.
