Helpful Information for UM-Flint Students
Helping students during this challenging time is our top priority. That is why we have extra support services available to help with everything from tutoring to counseling to financial aid support. At the University of Michigan-Flint, we are here for you.

- Free Bartleby, Barnes & Noble’s online learning center for homework help.
- Barnes & Noble is offering free ground shipping on any web order. Also free shipping for the Winter rentals that are due back the last week of April.
Computer Labs & ITS Helpdesk
At this time, the computer labs are operating in limited locations. Please visit the computer lab hours website for a current list of available open computer labs and their hours of operation. The Helpdesk will remain primarily online, there will be limited face to face hours by appointment.
Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS is offering remote therapy services for our currently enrolled UM-Flint clients and providing case management services for our new clients. Remote therapy encompasses delivering counseling and psychotherapy services via technology-assisted media. The technology includes but is not limited to telephone, video, internet, smartphone, tablet, PC desktop system, or other electronic means. For more information, please contact CAPS. In the event of an after-hour crisis, please contact the Department of Public Safety to reach the crisis counselor on duty OR you may dial 911.
The Office of Financial Aid is offering the ability to schedule a phone appointment. Please remember that you can access your financial aid information by logging in to the UM-Flint Student Information System (SIS) and clicking on the financial aid tab. You may continue to send questions via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Emails should be sent using your UM-Flint email account whenever possible. Always include your full name and your UM ID number on any correspondence.
Federal Student Loans & COVID-19
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the U.S. Department of Education has placed all federal student loans in a temporary administrative forbearance through December 31, 2020. For more detailed information, please visit Federal Student Aid.
- Seat Reservations
Patrons of the Thompson Library will now be able to reserve specific seats for use when visiting the library. Upon arrival, you can easily check in and out from your smartphone using the QR code found on each seat. This new system allows us to ensure social distancing and safe capacity in the library.
- ITS Computers
The library will have 27 ITS computers (socially distanced) in service. The library also has laptops that can be checked out and used inside the library.
- Curbside Pickup
Curbside pick up will be available to patrons of the Thompson Library. This service will run from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Two parking spaces are available at the library’s loading dock. Please fill out a request for curbside pick up.
- Access to Librarians & Research Help
Our librarians and staff remain reachable through virtual methods (chat, email, text, and video) and our online resources are always available through our website.
