active\" aria-current=\"page\">Health and Safety<\/li><\/ol><\/nav>\n\n\n<p>The University of Michigan-Flint works hard to ensure your student is safe on campus. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/safety\/\">Department of Public Safety<\/a> provides complete law enforcement services. Our police officers are licensed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mcoles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards<\/a> and authorized to enforce all federal, state, and local laws, and rules of the University of Michigan. Our officers are also deputized by Genesee County.&nbsp;<br>DPS officers are well-trained in services unique to an academic institution and are dedicated to the community policing philosophy as a way of delivering police services. DPS provides an array of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">programs and services<\/a> for our campus community. Please review the DPS website for all of the services provided by the department in addition to those mentioned below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1_LCTwuxteFyA4ae_hWv3f-fmTMCw6VCbyz39slCKxyg\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Campus Safe Ride<\/a><br>Safe Ride, operated by DPS Student Patrol Officers, is a free transportation service that operates within specific campus geographic boundaries. Safe Ride operates while UM-Flint is open and in session throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/safety\/campus-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safety Escort Service<\/a><br>Safety escort service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all members of the UM-Flint community. Students can call <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/safety\/contact-us\/\">DPS<\/a> and a safety employee will walk you to your car or other campus destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/15c1Rqkby2x_uidopclsv54vNEKCWQGNpjfjI5A9K3nA\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UM-Flint Emergency Alert&nbsp;<\/a><br>UM-Flint Emergency Alert usually won&#8217;t be used for localized incidents within a building, such as a small fire. This system is reserved for campus-wide emergencies, which include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inclement weather-related campus closings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A tornado warning for Genesee County<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An active violence incident, such as an active shooter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A health-related emergency, such as a water boil advisory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to receive these urgent notification alert messages, students may register up to three communication devices, such as text message devices, cell phones, or other phones. Registration is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.umflint.edu\/\">Student Information System<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/my.umflint.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Emergency Contact Information<\/a><\/strong><br>All students are asked to provide the university with the name and contact information for an emergency contact. This allows the university to reach out to families if necessary. UM-Flint offers insurance plans for both <a href=\"https:\/\/uhs.umich.edu\/dship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">domestic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/cge\/student-resources\/health-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">international<\/a> students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-a28a9d1945e9d10a2464fabffa1b9815\"><strong>Telehealth Services<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UM-Flint offers free telehealth services for all undergraduate students. Services available through telehealth include episodic care, nurse advice, medication renewals, nutrition counseling, minor illness\/injury care, and sexual health (including contraception and consultation). Students can access <a href=\"https:\/\/uhs.umich.edu\/virtual-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">telehealth services<\/a> by contacting 734-764-8320.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your student is experiencing a medical emergency on campus, call the <strong>UM-Flint Department of Public Safety at 810-762-3333 or 911<\/strong>. DPS will provide basic first aid, and ambulance transport (as appropriate) and will contact the Emergency Medical System if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-de5b8db94f7840f6c6905f97934b9160\"><strong>Disability and Accessibility Services<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Should your student have a disability and need academic accommodations, please direct them to contact<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/disabilitysupportservices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Disability &amp; Accessibility Services<\/a>, located at 264 University Center. DASS can help facilitate services such as accessible campus transportation, adaptive technology, sign language interpreters, and guidance for course accommodations. The facility offers athletic courts, an indoor running track, a pool, cardio and weight areas, classes, and more.
