2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Purpose of this Communication<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. To notify you of the requirement to post the Annual MIOSHA 300A Log \u2013 Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. Directors and Supervisors, please ensure the attached report is posted in a common area for employees to view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp; Advise individuals of the Flint Campus\u2019 work-related illness\/injury reporting requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Annual Posting of Summary of Occupational Injuries &amp; Illnesses (MIOSHA 300A Log)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIOSHA mandates the reporting and recording of work-related incidents. The rules were designed to help employers recognize where workplace hazards were occurring, and, through effectively tracking injuries and illnesses, enables employers to take corrective action to eliminate the hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIOSHA requires employers to post from Feb 1-Apr 30 the MIOSHA Summary of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses for recordable injuries\/illnesses that occurred during the prior calendar year. A complete copy of the summary log has been provided by the U-M Insurance and Claims Administration\/Work Connections to the Flint campus. The copy of the 2025 MIOSHA 300A Summary Log is attached to this e-mail, posted on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.workconnections.umich.edu\/miosha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<strong>Work Connections website<\/strong><\/a>, and will be accessible to employees through April 30, 2026.&nbsp; Additionally, a paper copy is posted and available for employees to review at the Environment, Health and Safety office in 300 NBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Summary Log reports aggregate data in the following categories:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Number of Cases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of Days (Away &amp; Restricted)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Injury and Illness Types and Employment Information (average number of employees and total hours worked).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">MIOSHA reporting requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employers are required to record work-related injuries or illnesses if they result in, for example, days away from work, restricted work, or medical treatment beyond first aid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employers are required to record cases as restricted work cases when the injured or ill employee only works partial days or is restricted from performing his\/her routine job functions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employers are required to record all needlestick and sharps injuries involving contamination by another person\u2019s blood or other potentially infectious material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a contracted worker receives day-to-day supervision by a U-M employee, a work-related illness\/injury that is sustained by the contract worker may need to be recorded on the University\u2019s MIOSHA 300A Log. Contract worker incidents must be reported to EHS immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-x-large-font-size\">Reporting an Injury or Illness at UM-Flint<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>REPORT ALL INJURIES IMMEDIATELY<\/strong>&nbsp;to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) by calling 810-762-3333.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DPS will arrange for transportation<\/strong>&nbsp;to a UM-Flint\u2019s designated medical provider\u2019s treatment facility.&nbsp; DPS will notify Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) who will work with you and your department to process the appropriate reporting forms.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/ehs\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<strong>EHS<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<strong>UM-Flint Human Resources<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and U-M Insurance and Claims Administration\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.workconnections.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\/Work Connections<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>work closely to provide illness and injury support services for all faculty and staff. Illness\/Injury Report Forms are available on-line:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.workconnections.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&nbsp;Work Connections Illness &amp; Injury Report Form<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In past years, there have been questions as to what type of work-related incidents should be reported, in addition to questions as to when and to whom incidents should be reported. Some incidents may not appear to be an obvious accident\/illness or may not be reported by the employee to the supervisor immediately such as a rash or allergic reaction resulting from working with or in close proximity to a chemical product. Please be sure to report these types of work-related incidents to DPS and EHS for follow up.&nbsp; If you are not sure if an incident is or is not reportable, call DPS or EHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Timely Reporting of Injuries &amp; Illnesses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timely reporting of injuries and illnesses to EHS supports the University\u2019s ability to meet the MIOSHA regulations, but also enables us to better respond to the medical treatment and return-to-work needs of our injured\/ill employees. Report injuries and illnesses using the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.workconnections.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<strong>Work Connections Illness &amp; Injury Report Form<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;<strong>within 24 hours of the incident<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-x-large-font-size\">University Injury &amp; Illness Records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the appropriate injury and illness report forms have been completed by the employee and their supervisor and forwarded to EHS, all illness\/injury information is collected and managed centrally by the University\u2019s Work~Connections Program.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.workconnections.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<strong>Work~Connections<\/strong><\/a>, a program of UM Risk Management Services, provides injury and illness support services for faculty and staff on all UM campuses for work- and nonwork-related incidents.
