Alumni Uriah Horton '17, and Aaron Latchaw '19, had a unique internship experience before starting their careers. They worked with Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad to restore a 1920 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. Read more about their story!
Each student in the Engineering capstone course presents an idea relevant to their personal interests and skills. The class votes and the winning ideas are adopted as final projects. The students break into teams based on project choice--read about some projects recent graduates have completed!

Flint Engineering Gifts
This fund enables the Engineering Department to direct resources where they are most immediately needed. Funding is used to support students and faculty, research projects, new and current programs, and priority initiatives.
James is currently a Manufacturing Engineer for General Motors. When asked what he valued about his UM-Flint engineering experience, he shared that “I valued the perfect balance of professional, academic and social opportunities that UM-Flint was able to offer me. Looking back at it, I didn't realize how fortunate I was to have my first summer internship with GM through the UM-Flint Internship Fair. I also enjoyed my involvement with the American Society of Mechanical Engineering at UM-Flint, Undergraduate Research, Greek Life, and campus employment throughout my undergraduate career. The networking that came with all of the opportunities was also unmatched.”
Samantha is highly involved as part of the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She says, “I am getting valuable experience outside of the classroom. What we do is so similar to what goes in the real world. Everything that I will do as an engineer in the field someday, I’m doing most of that right now with ASME.”
