class=\"breadcrumb-item active\" aria-current=\"page\">Mpowering My Success<\/li><\/ol><\/nav>\n\n\n<p class=\"mt-4\">Oftentimes, people who have experienced foster care lack traditional family support which can make transitioning into college and graduating difficult. That\u2019s where we come in! Mpowering My Success staff members understand that success comes in many forms, and we strive to set up students for personal, financial, and academic success on their path to graduation and beyond! From group workshops to meeting one-on-one with a Life Skills Coach, Mpowering My Success aims to provide students with many resources to overcome potential challenges, build and develop life skills, and obtain a college degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading mt-4\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mt-4\">Mpowering My Success provides students who have experienced time in foster care with an added layer of support during their journey in college through personalized success plans that focus on education, mental health, belonging, relationships, and life skills.<br><br>The Mpowering My Success program staff are dedicated to assisting program participants reach both their educational and personal goals. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/eoi\/contact-us\/\">Contact us<\/a> today if you would like more information!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-css-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background mt-5 mb-5\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-2\">UM-Flint students who are under the age of 23 and meet one of the following criteria may be eligible for the Mpowering My Success Program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student was in foster care on or after their 14th birthday<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student was adopted from foster care on or after their 16th birthday<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student was in a non-secure delinquency placement supervised by Department of Health &amp; Human Services (DHHS) on or after their 14th birthday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who have experienced foster care but do not meet at least one of the above criteria are still eligible for some services through the Mpowering My Success program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-css-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background mt-5 mb-5\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color\">What We Provide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-2\">In partnership with the DHHS, Mpowering My Success is an on campus program at UM-Flint that is dedicated to providing wrap-around support services to students who have experienced foster care. Students who meet eligibility requirements and become involved in the program receive access to a wide variety of resources, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regular meetings with a Masters Level Life Skills Coach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>24\/7 Emergency on-call support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial assistance and annual emergency funds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Life Skills Workshops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Referrals to both on and off campus resources as necessary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular meetings with assigned mentor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On campus housing during school breaks if needed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistance as needed when applying for Education and Training Voucher (ETV), Fostering Futures Scholarship, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-css-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background mt-5 mb-5\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color\">Resources for Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-2\"><strong>Connecting with Others Who Have Experienced Foster Care<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/fyit\/0,1607,7-240-44524-162619--,00.html\">Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative (MYOI)<\/a>: An overview of the services that MYOI provides for participating youth.<br><br><strong>Physical &amp; Mental Healthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umflint.edu\/caps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Counseling &amp; Psychological Services (CAPS)<\/a>: UM-Flint&#8217;s counseling center provides free and confidential counseling as well as accessibility services to UM-Flint students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/catholiccharitiesflint.org\/geneseecounseling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Catholic Charities:<\/a> Local mental health service provider for people of all backgrounds and religions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/genhs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Genesee Health System<\/a>: GHS serves people who have Medicaid insurance or are covered by Healthy Michigan, those enrolled in the MI CHILD program, or people who have no insurance and cannot pay for services but meet eligibility requirements. \u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>988 Suicide &amp; Crisis Lifeline: Call, text, or chat 988 to be connected to a trained counselor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crisistextline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crisis Text Line<\/a>: Text HOME to 741741 in the US<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geneseecountymi.gov\/departments\/health_department\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Genesee County Health Department<\/a>: Provides various physical health treatments, immunizations, testing, etc. for Genesee County residents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-2\"><strong>Clothing, Personal Care Items, Etc.<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/fosterclosetofmichigan.org\/genesee\/\">Foster Closet of Genesee County<\/a>: The Foster Closet of Genesee County provides FREE items to youth of any age who are active in the foster care system. The Foster Closet carries a wide variety of items, such as clothes, shoes, and personal care items.<br><br><strong>Foster Care Scholarships, Grants, &amp; Funding Sources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list mb-5\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mietv.samaritas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Education and Training Voucher (ETV)<\/strong><\/a>: Information about the ETV program in Michigan as well as application materials. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis year-round.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nsoro.foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NSORO<\/strong><\/a>: Scholarship for students who have experienced foster care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/fyit\/0,1607,7-240-44524-161180--,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Youth in Transition (YIT)<\/strong><\/a>: A description of YIT eligibility criteria and what expenses YIT funds may cover for eligible youth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mistudentaid\/programs\/tuition-incentive-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tuition Incentive Program (TIP<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mistudentaid\/-\/media\/Project\/Websites\/mistudentaid\/Publications\/Fact-Sheets\/TIPFactSheet.pdf?rev=58c0747c1533402ab749565a9ec84748&amp;hash=E475CB0DF8654560D271084E00592F9B\"><strong>)<\/strong><\/a>: An overview of TIP along with a fact sheet that includes eligibility information and a link to the TIP application.
