Below are auxiliary and other on-campus resources pertinent to faculty at UM-Flint. Descriptions of services, relevant links, and campus locations (with campus maps) can be found below each banner. Incoming UM-Flint faculty are encouraged to become familiar with and avail themselves to the offerings of these offices and departments.

Public Safety

UM-Flint’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) is committed to making the campus and its surrounding community safe and secure. DPS employs the latest in security technology, including campus cameras, remote building locks, license plate readers, and emergency notification systems. DPS police officers are trained in Ann Arbor, outfitted with body cameras, and equipped for law enforcement, and fire and medical assistance.

The DPS Student Patrol (about 20 members) is the “highly visible” student presence and involvement arm of DPS, recognizable by their maize and blue jackets. DPS engages with broader campus and community safety through a variety of activity including resident hall block clubs, safety marches, Community Comp Stat, and the Flint Urban Safety Corps.

Housed in UM-Flint’s University Center, Printing Services offers professional printing to both UM-Flint and the surrounding community. Using in-house equipment they provide high-quality products at competitive rates with a quick turn-around. UM-Flint faculty are encouraged to consider Printing Services for all their professional and personal printing needs:

University Outreach at UM-Flint exists to “connect campus and community to support learning, collaboration, and partnerships.” Outreach’s efforts in engaged citizenship and institutional diversity contributed significantly to UM-Flint receiving the distinguished, national Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement.

UM-Flint's Eearly Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is housed in the William S. White (WSW) Building. The nationally accredited education and research Center serves both the UM-Flint family and surrounding communites through:

Events and Building Services (EBS)

EBS schedules non-academic events on campus—including meetings, lectures, workshops, and special events (such as weddings and proms). Reservation of all university rooms is handled through EBS.

EBS manages UM-Flint’s Master Calendar of on-campus university and community events.

UM-Flint offers several on-campus dining options. Housed on the 3rd floor of the University Center (UCEN): 

  • UM-Flint Grille/Simply-to-Go (Spring/Summer Hours 10AM-2PM)
  • Clint’s Café-Starbuck’s Coffee/Pastry (Closed Spring/Summer)
  • Erbert & Gerbert’s Sub Shop (Closed Spring/Summer)
  • Riverview Room-Cafeteria Dining (Closed Spring/Summer) 

The Information Centers located on 1st floors of the University Center (UCEN), French Hall, Theater Building, and White Building generally offer coffee/juice/soft drinks and pretzels/bagels/muffins.

Dining Services offers catering on-campus (including classrooms) and to the Flint community. Reservations are generally required at least 48 hours in advance.

Eateries in the University Pavilion (M-F only; most close by 5PM):

Recreational Services (Rec Center)

The UM-Flint Rec Center, open to the public, is located immediately north of the University Center (UCEN) and offers memberships by the month or year, as well as daily passes. UM-Flint faculty with at least a 50% appointment and family members residing at the same address are eligible for discounted memberships

The Office of Development expands educational opportunities at UM-Flint through the generous support of alumni, faculty, staff, students and supporters. Gift-giving information can be found on their website. The Office of Development coordinates funding through:

  • Alumni Gifts
  • Private Foundations Grants for research
  • Corporate Grants for research
  • Government Funding for research
  • Major Gift Officers working with different schools

In most cases, Department Chairs or School Deans are the best first point of contact for research proposals seeking specific funding. The Office of Development can assist with determining optimum connections between the need and funding organizations, as well as drafting quality proposals.
