Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at UM-Flint! We are so excited to have you join the ranks of our faculty.
CAS houses the natural and social sciences, visual and performing arts, humanities and STEM disciplines on campus. Our 18 departments range in both size and complexity, but all are grounded in the mission of providing a world-class liberal arts education. We strive to engage our students in meaningful research and internships while providing tailored advising and mentoring at the department level. We recognize that the education they earn here is a foundation for life and all that it brings – in their career, communities, and families.
We are the largest unit and only college on the UM-Flint campus. Over half of the university’s credit hours are completed in our classrooms. Our size and diversity will offer you many opportunities for collaboration and interdisciplinary work. I hope you take advantage of those opportunities and get to know the university outside of your department.
In 2017-18, we will establish our strategic plan for the next five years. Please attend as many of the associated events as possible. Your new perspective can provide valuable input, and it is a great chance to learn about our opportunities and challenges.
Associate Deans Roy Barnes and Chris Pearson, along with myself and the staff of the CAS Dean’s Office, are ready and willing to answer any questions you have and to help you navigate the university as you get settled into your position. Don’t hesitate to contact us.
Again, welcome to CAS. We cannot wait to see what your time with us will bring!
