href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\"><strong>2024-25 FAFSA<\/strong><\/a><strong> is now available<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Streamlined and more user-friendly FAFSA <\/strong>now with fewer questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expanded aid eligibility <\/strong>due to larger income protection allowances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IRS Direct Data Exchange (DDX)<\/strong> makes entering tax information easier and will be required for students, spouses, and parents to transfer their 2022 tax information or non-filing status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Number in college<\/strong> will no longer factor into the FAFSA calculation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Untaxed items <\/strong>such as payments to tax-deferred retirement or pension plans, veteran\u2019s non-educational benefits, worker\u2019s compensation will no longer be required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parent assets <\/strong>will now include<strong> <\/strong>net worth of all businesses and net worth of a family farm, if applicable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Divorced or separated parent changes<\/strong> &#8211; the parent who provided the most financial support to the student will need to provide their information. Previously, the parent who the student lived with the most provided their information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color\" id=\"terms\">Terms to Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Student Aid Index (SAI): <\/strong>calculated by FAFSA data and will determine student aid eligibility. This replaces the EFC that was used in previous years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contributor: <\/strong>a parent, step-parent, student or spouse of student who is providing&nbsp; information to the FAFSA.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consent: <\/strong>required from all contributors in order for the IRS to share tax data directly to the FAFSA. Not providing consent will automatically make the student ineligible for aid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Direct Data Exchange (DDX): <\/strong>previously known as IRS Data Retrieval; this tool imports tax data directly from the IRS to your FAFSA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS):<\/strong> a summary of your completed FAFSA information. This replaces the Student Aid Report (SAR) that was used in previous years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color\" id=\"prepare\">Ways to Prepare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>FSA ID<\/strong> <br>A<strong> <\/strong>Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID is required for all contributors including the student. During FSA ID creation, there will be questions related to TransUnion verification. If a contributor fails verification, they will need to call FSAIC at 1-800-433-3243 for next steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How will contributors (other than the student) complete their part of the FAFSA?<\/strong><br>Students will need to invite contributors to complete their sections of the FAFSA. Once invited, contributors will receive an email with links to provide their information on a student\u2019s FAFSA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>My parents are divorced or separated. Which parent is a contributor for my FAFSA?<\/strong><br>The parent who provides the most financial support to the student should be the contributor on the FAFSA. It is no longer automatically the parent that the student lived with for the past 12 months. Starting with 2024-25, the parent of record will now be the parent who provides the student with the most financial support.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is not necessarily the parent with the most income.&nbsp; A parent could have a high income but provide little or no financial support to the student compared to the other parent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If neither parent provided support in the 12-month period, the parent of record is the parent who provided the greater portion of support during the most recent year that the student received financial support from a parent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If both parents claim an equal amount of support, then the parent of record is the parent with the greater amount of income\/assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do the invitations to contributors to provide federal tax information and consent expire?<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Yes. Invitations to be a contributor will be deleted when they have been inactive for 45 days. Any previously entered information will be deleted and the process will need to start over.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do all contributors need to provide consent for Federal Tax Information (FTI)?<\/strong><br>Consent is required from all contributors whether they file a tax return or not.
