Genesee County. Founded in 2010, HEART is both impacting health outcomes for patients and providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for UM-Flint students from multiple programs. Originally a one-on-one bowling session, this initiative has gained momentum and become a popular weekly event, bringing joy and therapeutic benefits to the entire community.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60)\"\/>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-bootstrap-blocks-container container mb-2\">\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading mt-3 mb-4 has-primary-color has-text-color\">Free Health Services for the Flint Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students and faculty offer HEART services on campus on Wednesdays and at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Insight+Institute+of+Neurosurgery+%26+Neuroscience+(IINN)\/@42.9829159,-83.6762899,15z\/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x88237f4add6a35db:0x26b55edbcc46f4a8!8m2!3d42.9829159!4d-83.6762899!16s%2Fg%2F1tjdxj7q?entry=ttu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Insight Institute of Neurosurgery &amp; Neuroscience<\/a><\/strong>. Free services include personalized physical therapy and occupational therapy visits, and three different MoveMore exercise classes designed to help people with neurologic conditions, including chronic stroke, incomplete spinal cord injury, brain injury, and Parkinson\u2019s disease, improve their function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a part of HEART, students also volunteer in other community settings. Physical therapy students provide geriatric fall screenings at community centers and physicals for high school athletes. Physician assistant students also mentor youth in an after-school program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading mb-2 has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Wednesdays in the William S. It incorporates walking at a high intensity and is helpful for people with chronic stroke, spinal cord injury and brain injury.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MoveMore for Upper Extremities<\/strong> \u2013 This class from noon to 1 p.m. is facilitated&nbsp;by occupational therapy students and faculty. It focuses on exercises designed to help people with chronic stroke improve their arm function.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Physical Therapy<\/strong> \u2013 PT visits are available on Fridays for anyone with problems moving. People develop issues with moving because of issues with their muscles or bones, brain or spinal cord, heart and lungs, or skin. Students will complete an initial evaluation and develop an individualized treatment plan for you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Occupational Therapy<\/strong>* \u2013 OT students are available on Fridays to work with people diagnosed with a stroke, Parkinson\u2019s disease, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and more. OT helps people who have been affected by an injury or medical condition regain independence in daily living skills.
