class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fb051195f7f2e53cc25d424c969992c0\">Honors Scholar Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To earn this distinction, students must complete:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Five core honors courses that count toward general education requirements.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>HON 155 (3 credits) Humanities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honors ENG 111 (must enroll in section 11 or 12, 3 credits)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HON 156 (3 credits) Fine Arts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HON 251 (3 credits) Social Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HON 252 (3 credits) Social Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two honors affiliate or contract courses. To earn this distinction, students must complete:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choice of one core honors course that counts toward general education requirements.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>HON 351 (3 credits) Social Science (online winter semester)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HON 355 (3 credits) Humanities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HON 356 (3 credits) Fine Arts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two honors affiliate or contract courses. These count toward major degree requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An off-campus experience, HON 494 (1 credit)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A thesis\/senior project, HON 498 (3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forty hours of co-curricular experiences (approximately 10 hours per semester), including but not limited to community service, leadership activities or advocacy work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7d5cefec6cf13f74dc14e22ba3f21cd5\">Honors Off-Campus Experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Working one-on-one with a UM-Flint faculty member, this unique experience has been a key factor in broadening the horizons and enriching the lives of students throughout the history of the Honors Program.<br><br>The off-campus experience is funded up to $3,000 and is usually taken during the summer of the junior year. Our students have traveled domestically as well as to countries around the world including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy and Japan.<br><br>Options include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Research at another university<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study abroad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Student Exchange<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Michigan in Washington Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internship<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wyatt Exploration Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students choose their off-campus experience based on their major and chosen field of study with the help of their faculty off-campus advisor.<br><br>As with any adventure, the Honors Program will enhance your life personally and professionally. You have the chance to develop relationships with people you meet during your experience and explore life in another culture.<br><br>Work for the off-campus experience is completed in HON 494 (1 credit) Off-Campus Study and Thesis Preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d1520827558e3cf7297a3790e42cbf95\">Honors Thesis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following their off-campus experience, students complete a senior thesis or creative project under the supervision of a faculty advisor. The Honors Thesis or project is designed to provide expertise in the student\u2019s discipline and further enrichment of the student\u2019s curriculum.<br><br>A creative project could also meet the requirements of the senior project. The production, performance, or creative work should be developed according to the requirements of the student\u2019s specific area of study and must be deemed appropriate in the agreement with the honors advisor and director.
