Meet the Grads
Hailey Andres, Art and Design Major, Marketing Minor
My name is Hailey Andres and I am in my last semester at UM- Flint, where I have been studying for the past four years. Throughout my time in college I have greatly enjoyed immersing myself in the Flint community, volunteering, and meeting a variety of wonderful individuals. When I’m not busy with school, I enjoy traveling, community service, and educating others about agriculture.
Favorite memory at UM-Flint: My favorite experiences throughout college have involved partnering with community organizations through my Design for Community and Advanced Advertising courses. These classes provided a fun and meaningful collaborative experience.
How do you plan to celebrate at home? I hope to celebrate my graduation at home by ordering takeout from a local business! I am optimistically looking forward to the commencement ceremony in August!
Taylor A. Mosley, Professional Communications Major, Computer Information Systems minor
My time at U of M has had its ups and downs, but overall I'm grateful for the experience and excited about where this second degree will take me in terms of my career.
Favorite memory at UM-Flint: A fun memory I had was my attempt to join the dance team. I had fun learning the routines, but I quickly realized I couldn't keep up. I did enjoyed the exercise!
How will you celebrate at home? I will probably celebrate at home with my family , a good home cooked meal and some cupcakes of course.
Selina Black, Communications Major, Music Minor
I am a full time student as well as a full time GM employee. My time as UM-Flint has been a very positive experience. Instructors have been flexible and understanding during times of uncertainty and much patience has been extended throughout the transition and conversion of classes online. I have created strong bonds and trustworthy friendships during my time as a student and I look forward to watching my fellow classmates succeed as they press onward in their academic careers.
Favorite Memory at UM-Flint: As an adult returned to school, it has been challenging to connect with people like I used to in my early 20's. However, I have formed unexpected friendships with a couple of fellow students that will remain intact even after graduation.
How do you plan to celebrate at home? I will begin a new job shortly after graduating. Although I don't know when the social distancing order will be lifted, I plan to celebrate by going to Black Rock with my family as soon as we are allowed. I will give a short speech to them expressing my gratitude and thanking them for all their encouragement during all my moments of frustration and tears, joys and accomplishments.
Monica M. Harper, Communications Major, Music Minor
It’s been a long four years. I started off as a music performance major and graphic design minor and decided that wasn’t the right path for me. I did some thinking and decided communications was a better field of study for me. During this time I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot. I’ve truly enjoyed my experienced at the University of Michigan-Flint.
Involvement on campus: Phaze Out Hip Hop Dance Organization and the Women’s Club Basketball Team
Favorite memory at UM-Flint: Freshman year living in First Street will always be a classic. I’ve found friends within those walls that I’d like to consider lifetime friends.
How do you plan to celebrate at home? Just knowing that I finally made it to the end is enough for me. I never thought I’d make it this far and to be able to say that I did is celebration enough.
Gabby Somers, Professional Communications Major
My journey with UM-Flint has been a long one, 7 years to be exact. But the university taught me so much beyond academics. I met my husband at UM-Flint, I found my major after searching for a long time, and I grew as a professional and as a woman. I am so thankful for the time, the tears, the sweat, the blessings, and the lessons that UM-Flint has gifted me.
Favorite memory at UM-Flint: My favorite memory of UM-Flint is meeting my husband. He was a history major, and I initially didn't like him. But through study dates at the library and time spent sipping coffee in the UCEN, I feel head over heels for him and he proposed my Junior Year Winter Semester.
How do you plan to celebrate at home? We're going to have some friends and family over for dinner and games, spending quality time together after the Shelter in Place and Social Distancing Requirements are lifted.
