has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-56990890b59b715ff58b8b2e16d451fe\"><strong>Eligibility:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/spg.umich.edu\/policy\/201.69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPG 201.69\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-684dec55d4c30b7e832d5c0cccc8158f\"><strong>UM-Flint Staff attending UM-Flint classes:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This tuition support plan will cover 100% of in-state tuition and fees paid from the central fund, as long as funds are available and a passing grade(s) is attained, for up to 18 credits maximum per fiscal year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eligible grades are \u201cC or better\u201d for undergraduate courses and \u201cB or better\u201d for graduate courses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Courses receiving an \u201cI\u201d or \u201cY\u201d grade will not be acceptable for tuition payment unless the grade is changed to one of the eligible grades before 60 days following the end of the semester. <strong><em>It is the employee\u2019s responsibility to notify Student Accounts and assure with their instructor their grades are received in the Registrar\u2019s Office within the 60 day deadline.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment is from Central Pool unless depleted; then tuition will be charged to the department signing the prepayment form.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-45cb91936f18e83a8a88e806b858990a\"><strong>Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employee <\/strong>\u2013 Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/teamdynamix.umich.edu\/TDClient\/193\/Portal\/Home\/?ToUrl=\">FLINT HR Client Portal Home<\/a>; click on HR Services, then \u2018Employee Benefits\u2019, then \u2018Flint HR-Tuition Support\u2019, then \u2018Flint-HR Staff Tuition Prepayment Form\u2019. Read the included information then click on \u2018Request Service\u2019 towards the upper right-hand corner of the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fill out the required information and submit the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Human Resources<\/strong> &#8211; submit received information from the ticket to their Supervisor for approval of classes being taken.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Departmental Supervisors <\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>Approve or disapprove employees\u2019 class request upon receipt of information from HR (per SPG&nbsp; 201.69).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Accounting <\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>upon completion of verification process; apply award to student account&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Human Resources <\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>Interpretation of 201.69 and determination of appeal process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Tax Implications:\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>The Internal Revenue Code (IRC) requires reporting and withholding of income and FICA\u00a0 taxes for tuition support for <strong>graduate-status students<\/strong>, whenever those payments exceed\u00a0 $5,250.00 annually for each employee. Tuition advances\/reimbursements, exceeding\u00a0 $5,250.00 in a calendar year, for students listed as graduate students will be considered\u00a0 taxable income and will be reported to the Internal Revenue Service. Federal, state and FICA\u00a0 taxes will be withheld on any amount in excess of $5,250.00.
