U.S.)<\/li><\/ol><\/nav>\n\n\n<p>Form I-9 is used to document verification of the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. Federal law requires the university to complete Form I-9 for each individual hired for employment in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Faculty will be processed via communication with the designated HR Business Partner. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please contact University Human Resources at <a href=\"mailto:um-flint-hr@umich.edu\">um-flint-hr@umich.edu<\/a> for additional information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular Staff will be processed during onboarding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student\/temporary employees will need to follow the steps below:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Receive an email from HR Business Partner containing instructions on completing the I-9 process in HR.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the I-9 has been completed and processed, an email will be sent to the new hire and the department with authorization to work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student\/Temporary employees may not begin work until the department receives this authorization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other U-M campus new employees, please contact University Human Resources at <a href=\"mailto:um-flint-hr@umich.edu\">um-flint-hr@umich.edu<\/a> to schedule an appointment to complete an I-9 on the Flint campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-73dacc937a36d6ea9c6dbb05c97f7102\">NEW! (Effective 6\/3\/2026) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I-9 forms are completed electronically using the university\u2019s partner, EMP Trust.\u00a0 An invitation to begin the process will be sent to your umich.edu email address.\u00a0 Please check your inbox and follow the instructions included in the email to complete your I-9.\u00a0 Non-compliance with this federal government requirement may result in the termination of your employment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5858a7b764939a5be07803863644ad3e\"><strong>Completion is a two-part process:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Part One<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete Section 1 online on or before your first day of employment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Part Two<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completion of Section 2 requires you to schedule and attend an in-person appointment no later than your third day of employment.\u00a0 Section 2 of the Form I-9s is completed by appointment only (walk-ins will not be accepted).
