End of Life Hardware Support

In an effort to help you and your department better plan for scheduled computer and printer replacements, we are writing to let you know what models/brands that ITS supports. As of July 1, 2016, ITS only supports Hewlett Packard computers and printers and we are no longer able to support Dell equipment. Since the University changed its strategic provider to Hewlett Packard, ITS has been helping departments phase out Dell products, and support has been provided on a limited basis.  As computers age, components begin to fail and it becomes increasingly difficult to find compatible parts for repairs or upgrades. Once they no longer have the ability to run currently supported software, it becomes increasingly impractical to invest time and money into their maintenance. For this reason, equipment beyond a certain age should not be used for any critical function or relied upon to perform acceptably. This equipment should be retired and taken out of service.

ITS maintains definitions of the minimum configuration that is still supported by our desktop computer support (DCS) staff, click here to see a list of currently supported hardware and operating systems. If asked to fix equipment that falls below this level, the DCS technician will evaluate the problem and, if easily repaired, will do so. If extensive time or cost will be required, the department will need to replace the unit with one that meets or exceeds the current minimum standards. Once the replacement unit has arrived, it will be setup to meet your needs.


Campus Computer Standards

Supported means that ITS staff will install, maintain, and attach this equipment to the campus network.  Quotes for all campus computers, printers, and monitors must be provided by ITS.

Mobile Devices

  • iOS and Android OS devices can be configured to access email
  • Tech support beyond general troubleshooting and email connection must come from the vendor


  • Preferred minimum of 22″ Wide Screen LED
  • HP and Dell monitors generally come with a four(4) year warranty standard
  • Tech support does not include repair of monitors – replacement is at department’s cost

Desktop Operating Systems

The following list denotes all desktop and laptop operating systems currently supported by Information Technology Services. The dates that follow the product is the date that the vendor will end support. This is provided so that you can plan purchases accordingly. In some cases, although the vendor may still provide support for an older operating system, ITS cannot recommend the operating system due to security risks or restrictions of other systems (e.g. Windows Vista SP2).
