Counseling and Psychological Services is a safe space that offers every student the opportunity for learning and discovering their fullest potential.
As mental health professionals we commit to being multiculturally sensitive and working to obliterate personal, systematic, and institutional oppression biases. We understand that becoming a multiculturally sensitive and competent professional is a lifelong process that is evolving learning, teaching and at times is an uncomfortable process of confronting and challenging our relationships, attitudes, values, beliefs, and biases. We welcome this challenge, and we believe our growth will benefit us and the people we serve. We also strive to recognize that our own diversity affects how we may relate to or work with our colleagues and the individuals we serve. Lastly, we assert that it is part of our professional responsibility to gain continuing education for ourselves and our trainees regarding individuals of diverse backgrounds.
As an agency, Counseling and Psychological Services is committed to the promotion and celebration of diversity in all of its forms. We are a multicultural, multidisciplinary, and multitheoretical staff striving to provide culturally competent clinical services, outreach programming, and training opportunities. We recognize that not all diversity is universally valued. For this reason, we feel a special obligation as a mental health agency to affirm diversity, to condemn oppression in every form, and to encourage the utilization of our services by all students, including those that might be reluctant to receive standard/traditional forms of treatment. To this end we seek to provide a safe, welcoming and affirming environment for all persons that seek our services.
