Leadership Opportunities for Students

Alternative Breaks offers the following leadership opportunities for students:

Executive Board (E-Board)

Membership is made up of program chairs from Alternative Spring Break, Service Saturdays, Alternative Summer Break and a Alternative Breaks chair (secretary role)

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a GPA of 3.0
  • Securing funding (grants, fundraisers, donations, etc)
  • Recruit new committee members
  • Communicate with University Outreach staff
  • Meet monthly

Applications Available: March 1-31

Term: May 1-April 30 of following year

General Board (G-Board)

Membership is made up of 3 committees: Marketing & Recruitment, Logistics, and Education

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a GPA of 2.75
  • Holding site leader interviews
  • Planning upcoming break event
  • Attending bi-weekly meetings
  • Participating in their respective Alternative Breaks program
  • Applications Available: March 1-31
  • Serve as a Site Leader (Service Saturdays ONLY)

Applications Available: September (Alternative Spring Break & Servie Saturdays) and Mid-November (Alternave Summer Break)

Term: Varies

Site Leader

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a GPA of 2.50
  • Leading participants at service site
  • Reporting to the General Board
  • Attending Site Leader meetings
  • Becoming contact with site
  • Hosting orientation
  • Making morning announcements
  • Recruiting at least 2 participants
  • Attending bi-weekly meetings
  • Participant in respective Alternative Break
  • Other duties as assigned

Applications Available: December (Alternative Spring Break); March (Alternative Summer Break)

Term: About 2 months prior to break and the week of break
