Whether you&#8217;re a student, member, or guest, following these guidelines is required. UM-Flint students may bring up to four adult guests daily.&nbsp; Guest fees apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-c3dae9c4d138fb32c14d334dcd373f7c\"><strong>Members (UM-Flint Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Community)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Must present valid MCard ID and be in good standing. Members may bring up to two adult guests daily to the facility. &nbsp;Guest fees apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-0c55fe5d87ce4e369dc6f0ba33e68bd8\"><strong>Guests<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The guest fee is $15\/day, and the individual must be accompanied by a UM-Flint Student or UM-Flint Rec Center member. (Children 6-17 and seniors 62+ are $8.) The guest must present a valid, government-issued photo identification that includes birthdate, fill out applicable paperwork, and pay the daily fee. No one will be admitted without a picture ID. For those 17 and under, ID is not required, but they must be accompanied by an adult member 18 or older. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-ebd2bab8a1101fc0683ddcf91423497a\"><strong>Forgotten ID\/Lost MCard<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Recreation Center utilizes MCards for the purpose of granting access to the facility. Rec Center members are issued an Mcard when they first sign up for a membership, and patrons must bring their MCard each visit. If you have forgotten your ID, some form of government issued picture ID will be required in order to verify your identity and date of birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A $10 fee will be charged for replacing lost member MCards. For cards that are broken or not working, no charge will be issued. Students&nbsp;should visit the Mcard office in the University Pavilion for replacement cards.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-bootstrap-blocks-container container mb-2\">\n\t\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ab0ef4837bacebb11a8093ce022e0c54\" id=\"Space-Guidelines\">Space Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper footwear is required in all activity areas of the Rec Center. Staff can also assist with a brief tutorial.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal belongings must be kept away from the playing area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Front Counter at the start of your reservation. Priority is given to group reservations; all other use is on a first-come, first served basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7a50de19ae932835fb7731a870a0f67a\"><strong>Gymnasium<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Permitted activities include basketball,volleyball, badminton, pickleball, tennis, futsal\/indoor soccer, indoor cricket.  See the drop-in recreation section below for more details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of hard objects like baseballs, softballs, lacrosse balls, bats, etc. are prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Priority is given to group reservations; all other use is on a first-come, first served basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-f9843a2b68995e97bb94a3d099940673\" id=\"h.yxyagd2pz0j8\"><strong>Saunas<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A dry-heat sauna is in both the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s pool locker rooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not apply water, oil, or any other substance to the sauna&#8217;s heating element or rocks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For their safety and well-being, children 12 and younger are not allowed to use the saunas. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-bdca4f12eb28370d749f03a4ddda8148\"><strong>Strength Training Area<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be Safe\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collars must be used at all times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use bumper plates for all power and olympic lifts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not drop bars, weight plates or dumbbells.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spotters are highly recommended for heavy lifts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be Clean\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disinfect and put away all equipment when finished.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No food allowed; beverages must be in a non-glass, sealable container.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No chalk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be Respectful\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always return equipment to its proper location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-rack your weights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow others to work in with you while doing multiple sets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7c1632c8e12e98d00fbbde987418e0c4\"><strong>Track<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Observe the directional arrow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Runners use the inside lane; walkers use the outside lane<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No more than two people side by side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep moving at all times<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No running spikes, skates, bikes or strollers allowed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-bootstrap-blocks-container container mb-2\">\n\t\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6fc87fe6716af021f556fe161a22c915\" id=\"Drop-in\">Drop-In Recreation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless spaces are reserved for events or programs, patrons may drop in to use spaces for the following activities. University policies, as well as the Departments of Environmental Health &amp; Safety, Public Safety, and General Counsel, also provide crucial guidance to our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-8a61cf226657cd7dfb2a1d990367b0ce\"><strong>Emergency Procedures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Recreation Center employees are trained to respond to emergencies in a manner appropriate to their position and certifications. Emergency action plans are available at staff workstations and are regularly reviewed with staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-bc514bb83dbac48308638becd61ae05b\"><strong>Automatic External Defibrillators <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AEDs are located near the Rec Center front counter, in the strength area, and on the lower level near the locker rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-ba417ea0771738aa641d6046a0ef87fa\"><strong>Proper Footwear<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper footwear is required in all activity areas of the Rec Center. No bare feet, open-toed shoes, sandals, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-06c5bd599ed7dbc114806ea08c20db8b\"><strong>Weapons<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Possessing, wearing, carrying or using firearms or any other dangerous weapons is prohibited on any property owned, leased or controlled by the University of Michigan, except by properly authorized law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5c6bb6b6d3d664a6635ba7a0dd5ff184\"><strong>Alcohol and Other Drugs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of age, alcohol is not permitted in the Rec Center at any time. Students, members and guests should not possess, transport, consume, or be in the presence of alcohol in any area of the Rec Center. The possession, use, sale, distribution, or manufacture of any illegal substance and the possession of drug\/smoking paraphernalia is prohibited in the Rec Center. Possession, use, or distribution of alcohol or illicit drugs may lead to a referral to the appropriate local, state, and\/or federal authorities for prosecution for a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the nature of the offense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-secondary-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-secondary-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7327e0d4e97a4ac8ea1636cc24ac2858\" id=\"Youth-Policies\">Children and Youth Policies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Guest passes and memberships for children (17 and under) are discounted and limited to designated areas in the Recreation Center. Food is permitted in the lobby, locker room spaces, and designated spaces with a group reservation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-835b372609354b308a0d54445250cc26\" id=\"h.hnelpx2tyh8q\"><strong>Lost and Found<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Items found in the Rec Center are retained in the Business Office for 30 days. At that time, all articles became the property of the Rec Center and were donated to a local charity or given to the Department of Public Safety. Please inquire during Business Office hours if you believe you may have lost belongings at the Rec Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5e0c33307b8b13ae396903c99df33d89\" id=\"h.jkoacw1qktqi\"><strong>Unclaimed Locker Property<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Items not picked up after the rental period has concluded will be stored in the office for 30 days. At that time, they are donated to a local charity or given to the UM-Flint Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9342d35bcb1b45f94e9c9b0ae4334cf7\" id=\"h.4aj4q2ls5j9e\"><strong>Checking Out Equipment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Equipment checked out at the Front Counter must be checked back in before you leave the Rec Center. When you check out an item, a record is created on the computer, and you must inform the attendant when you return items so that your account record is cleared for each daily visit. Fees are assessed based on the value of non-returned items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-88fd4ce775dce03dc2afd99e4852d420\" id=\"h.eefzgfiehypn\"><strong>Personal Trainers &amp; Coaches<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Michigan-Flint is a state-funded institution; our buildings and resources may not be used for private\/individual monetary benefit. Individuals who want to provide personal training or coaching service must make contractual arrangements to rent space at the Recreation Center in accordance with University of Michigan policies and procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-a2af3e610035a0a36a1dd88e6e20e698\" id=\"h.cvh69btoni6e\"><strong>Videos &amp; Photography<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Approval must be obtained from the Rec Center professional staff before recording or photographing participants. During recorded events and activities, please inform staff if you do not want your photo used in print or social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-2207086f54671f84d8ee76f55b533d74\"><strong>Preemption of Space<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During camps, sports games, and other special events, various activity spaces may become unavailable for open recreational usage for a set period of time. Schedules will be posted notifying patrons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4ad76b948dba6959b7ff4569eb394738\" id=\"conduct\">Conduct<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the philosophy of the department of Recreational Services to provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere and to strive to protect and respect the rights of all patrons and participants.  The conduct policy is implemented to serve as a basis for governing the use of all facilities and programs overseen by the department. Incidents not covered by a given policy will be addressed upon occurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrons observing inappropriate behavior should report such behavior to a Recreational Services staff member immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-928f90bb9ba3f71d9df30945dadf4927\"><strong>Prohibited Conduct<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General use of obscene, profane, vulgar, derogatory, or demeaning language and\/or gestures, or verbal abuse of patrons, students, staff members or others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spitting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disregarding facility usage policies &amp; procedures, including signage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entering the facility by means other than proper check-in procedures, including using a false I.D. or another person\u2019s I.D. for admission into the building<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to UM-Flint facilities or property (whether restitution is made may mitigate the severity of the sanction imposed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attempted or actual theft of UM-Flint property, services, or other personal property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harassment of patrons, students, staff members or others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attempting, causing or threatening violence and\/or physical harm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Threats, verbal or otherwise, directed at patrons, staff members or others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual misconduct, including but not limited to exhibitionistic &amp; obscene behavior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Violation of Rec Center policies or procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Violation of UM-Flint policy or local, state or federal regulations or laws<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-e45c342edebaea9be1213823af2460c3\"><strong>Sanctions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Engaging in any prohibited conduct outlined above may result in sanction(s) as determined by the Recreational Services administration or the Office of the Dean of Students. Some of the factors influencing the nature of the sanction(s) include the severity of the prohibited conduct at issue and whether the person is a repeat offender of the conduct policy. Sanctions for engaging in prohibited conduct may include, but are not limited to the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Verbal warning by Recreational Services staff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restitution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expulsion from Recreation facilities for the remainder of the day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expulsion from Recreation facilities\/programs for a specified period of time, e.g. one day, ninety days, one year, five years, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Permanent expulsion from Recreation facilities\/programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actions from DPS in response to criminal conduct<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-3ee0bd8279f067a2928caa0595d8ab6e\"><strong>Appeal Process<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Those wishing to appeal a sanction made by Recreational Services should send a written request for appeal (letter or email) to the appropriate office below within thirty days of the date on the communication issuing sanctions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your appeal must include your name, current address, and phone number.
